Crew Staying Busy During Soggy Conditions

Over the last 48 hours we have received approximately 2 inches of rain. We are extremely saturated which is limiting our approach to the daily maintenance plan.  However, the crew is staying busy with some course beautification projects and staff training.  I am still focusing on training our staff on bunker raking, especially when we receive heavy rain.  The crew is raking the bunkers in a 2 part process.  First,we are using iron rakes to loosen and soften the surface to avoid the "concrete" appearance and playing factor..  During this process the staff is removing any grass growing on the edges of the sand.  The second part of the process is to provide a finish raking with iron leaf rakes.  Utilizing this method will allow us to have bunkers that play consistent and ore importantly,  enjoyable.  The crew has also been busy cutting back all tall, overgrown areas throughout the property.  Areas completed include left and front of 1 green, right side 12 green, left side 11 green, left side 13 tees.  The crew is now working on the right side of 11 fairway.  Cutting back these areas will provide a cleaner look and also allow some course features to be more visible. ( bunkers, green complexes, fairways etc)  The pictures attached below illustrate the work mentioned above.  Take Care, Chris

  1. It's great to see this kind of activity, Chris. I'm particularly happy to see the golf course looking more manicured with crisp lines. Thanks for the hard work!
